The Social Security Administration has added 12 new health regulations under its Compassionate Allowances program, meaning people with these conditions will now have faster access to Social Security benefits.

The program is designed to quickly identify claims where the applicant’s condition or illness clearly meets the legal standard for Social Security disability. Due to the serious nature of many of these conditions, claims are often only allowed based on a medical confirmation of the diagnosis.
On Monday, Acting Social Security Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi announced that the 12 new conditions for Compassionate Allowances are:
Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma
Blast plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm
Microvillus Inclusion Disease – Child
Myelodysplastic syndrome with excessive blasts
Pfeiffer Syndrome – Types II and III
Posterior cortical atrophy
Renal amyloidosis – AL type
With these 12 new conditions, the Compassionate Allowances program now covers a total of 266 conditions. According to the SSA, more than 800,000 people with severe disabilities have been approved through the accelerated, policy-compliant disability process.
“The Social Security Administration is committed to reducing barriers and ensuring that people who qualify for benefits receive them,” Kijakazi said in a statement. “Our Compassionate Allowances program allows us to reinforce that commitment by speeding up the application process for people with the most severe disabilities.”
When you apply for disability benefits, the SSA must request your medical records so that it can make an accurate decision. The agency uses leading-edge technology — including electronic health records — to identify potential cases of Compassionate Allowances and make quick decisions.
