On November 9, the National Committee on US-China Relations hosted its 2021 Gala Dinner. President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden sent congratulations to the gala dinner. Ambassador Qin Gang and National Committee Chairman Jacob Lew respectively read the letters.

President Xi expressed his appreciation and recognition to the Committee and its members for their long-standing commitment to the growth of China-US relations and to exchanges and cooperation between our countries in various fields. President Xi pointed out that the relationship between China and the US is one of the most important bilateral relations in the world today. The ability of our two countries, the world’s largest developing country and the largest developed country and two permanent members of the UN Security Council, to handle our relations well affects the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, and is important for the future of the world. At present, relations between China and the US are at a critical historic crossroads. Both countries will benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation. Collaboration is the only right choice. President Xi stressed that, according to the principles of mutual respect, coexisting peacefully and win-win cooperation, China is ready to work with the United States to improve exchanges and cooperation across the board, jointly address regional and international problems , as well as global challenges and, in the meantime, manage the differences well to put China-US relations back on track of healthy and steady development. I hope that the Committee and all those who care for and support the development of China-US relations will strengthen confidence, continue your good work and contribute even more wisdom and strength to the promotion of the friendship between China and the US, for the benefit of people in our two countries and around the world.

President Biden said: I send greetings to everyone gathered for the 2021 National Committee on US-China Relations Gala Dinner. For more than fifty years, the National Committee on US-China Relations has promoted cooperation between the United States and China, which helps to promote mutual understanding and constructive talks to find common ground. Today our world is at a turning point in history. From addressing the COVID-19 pandemic to addressing the existential threat of the climate crisis, the relationship between the United States and China is of global importance. To solve these challenges and seize opportunities, the wider international community must come together as we all do our part to build a secure, peaceful and resilient future. I am grateful for your dedication to strengthening the ties between the people of our two countries. Through the advocacy of organizations like yours, we can strive for greater connectivity and advancing interests that affect our countries and the world.

Ambassador Qin said in his remarks that President Xi’s congratulatory letter reflects China’s positive attitude and position on the development of China-US relations. China’s policy towards the US is very consistent and stable. The Chinese side always takes into account the fundamental interests of the people of both countries and the whole world, and treats the relations between China and the US from a strategic and long-term perspective. Some people say that the relationship between China and the US cannot go back to the past. But is it the reason why people can take the light or even damage it as they please? We reject this view. We look forward to working with the US government and visionaries, in the spirit of the telephone conversation between our presidents, to strengthen dialogue, manage differences, focus on cooperation and make unremitting efforts to to put relations between China and the US back on track .

At the Gala Dinner, former United States Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger and former United States Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao remarks. Mr. Ming Hsieh, a Chinese-American entrepreneur and philanthropist, was honored by the Committee for his contributions to the development of China-US relations.
