TODAY is the last day to apply for a monthly cash boost in the form of guaranteed income.

Eligible for Houston, Texas residents can apply for the city’s pilot program, which will provide $ 375 each month for a year.


Today is the last day to apply for Houston’s guaranteed income program

That guaranteed income the program moves quickly to selected participants.

Application close on Wednesday 25 May at 23.59 CT.

After the application window closes, 110 Houston residents will be selected to receive the cash payments.

Beneficiaries will receive $ 4,500 over the next 12 months.

The mayor of Houston announced last week that the pilot program would begin and opened for applications the same day.

The City of Houston is working with the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity to award the monthly scholarships to selected participants.

The program is also in partnership with the Mayors for Guaranteed Income, the coalition of dozens of mayors across the United States.

Participating mayors have started pilots in their various cities, among others Atlanta, Los Angelesand Philadelphia.

Who is eligible in Houston?

Houston residents experiencing financial hardship qualify for the program.

Additional requirements include:

  • Must be a resident of Houston
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application
  • Must have a household income at or below the federal poverty level

A total of 110 people will be selected, and each will receive $ 375 a month for a year.

Application will be available in English, Spanish, Mandarin and Vietnamese.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said he wants the money to go to people in Houston’s most underserved neighborhoods.

The program will target residents who have experienced homelessness, been involved in the justice system, or have health issues.

“This pilot could be game-changing for many Houstonians and a small step toward deepening equity in this city,” Turner said in a press release, according to Community impact.

“A guaranteed income is an effective tool with proven results that can help combat financial insecurity.”
