Asian equities mixed as investors await inflation data from China and US

SINGAPORE — Stocks in Asia-Pacific were mixed in trading Wednesday morning as investors await the release of inflation data on China and the US for October.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.18% in early trading, while the Topix index changed little. The Kospi in South Korea fell 0.37%.

Shares in Australia moved higher, with the S&P/ASX 200 climbing about 0.2%.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific stocks outside of Japan traded almost flat.

China will release its inflation data for October at 9:30 am HK/SIN.

US inflation data for October will also be released in the United States later on Wednesday.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 112.24 points to 36,319.98, while the S&P 500 lost 0.35% to 4,685.25. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.6% to 15,886.54.

The US dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of its peers, stood at 93,955 from a previous rise of around 93.9.

The Japanese yen traded at 112.90 per dollar, stronger than levels above 113.5 seen against the greenback earlier in the trading week. The Australian dollar stood at $0.7376 after falling above $0.74 recently.
