WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Hospitals and health systems across Central Wisconsin are struggling to help the sheer number of patients they are seeing with the latest wave of COVID-19.
Aspirus Health said that in their health system, which includes 17 hospitals, patient volumes are high in all of their healthcare facilities.
- 135 COVID-positive patients occupy 26 percent of Aspirus hospital beds
- The seven-day average of COVID-positive hospitalized patients in Aspirus has risen to 131 from 103 on November 22
- The weekly positivity rate among Aspirus processed COVID-19 tests has also risen above 22 percent
The high level of COVID-19 activity in the area highlights its ability to address non-COVID needs.
“So our emergency rooms, all of our 17 emergency rooms, plus our walk-ins and our urgent care services are open,” said Jeff Wicklander, Aspirus SVP and Aspirus Wausau Hospital President. “We will see every patient. You may have to wait a while. There are delays, we are seeing a significant number of patients in those areas, but we are confident that you will be seen and that we will meet your needs.”
Aspirus said one thing people can do to help local hospitals through the pandemic is get vaccinated.
