At least 3 shots in parking lot of Six Flags Great America – NBC Chicago

Three people were injured in a shooting outside Six Flags Great America in Gurnee on Sunday night, triggering a massive law enforcement presence and a chaotic scene at the amusement park.

A spokesman for Six Flags Great America said three people were injured when shots were fired from a single vehicle in the parking lot. The car drove away from the crime scene immediately after the shooting, the spokesman said.

Two people were taken to hospital for examination, a third refused treatment.

After the shooting, the park closed early for the evening. Photos posted to social media showed police escorting large crowds of visitors, some of whom were escorted by police from the amusement park.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department confirmed it was assisting the Gurnee Police Department and said there was no indication that the shooting was an active shooting incident. Officers from nearby communities of North Chicago, Waukegan and Vernon Hills also responded to the scene.
