Austin, Texas COVID-19 Updates: November 9, 2021

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates in Central Texas for Tuesday, November 9.

  • Texas: More than 3.5 million cases have been reported in the state and more than 70,700 people have died in Texas, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Counties in Central Texas:
    • Austin-Travis County: The seven-day moving average for new hospitalizations is 13, and an average of 119 people are hospitalized. The seven-day moving average for new cases is 91. Since the start of the pandemic, 120,481 cases have been reported and at least 1,172 people have died.
    • Hays County: There are currently 380 active cases and currently 12 people are hospitalized (8 unvaccinated, 4 vaccinated). Since the start of the pandemic, at least 29,864 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 401 people have died.
    • Williamson County: There are 81 new cases of coronavirus in Williamson County. Twenty-two percent of hospital beds are available and 15% of ICU beds are available. Since the start of the pandemic, at least 65,886 cases have been reported and at least 708 people have died.
  • Central Texas School Districts:
    • Austin ISD: As of November 8, there are a total of 46 new COVID-19 cases (36 students, 8 workers, 2 others) and a total of 133 new exposures (132 students, 1 worker). As of August 16, there have been 1,405 cumulative positive cases (1,149 students, 231 workers, 25 others) and 7,856 cumulative exposures (7,724 students, 110 workers, 22 others).
    • Round Rock ISD: As of November 8, there are 11 new positive cases (10 students, 1 staff member) and 76 new “close contacts” (70 students, 6 staff members). There are a total of 1,892 cumulative positive cases (1,642 students, 250 employees) and a total of 15,843 cumulative “close contacts” (14,607 students, 1,236 employees).
    • Leander ISD: For the week of Nov 6-Nov. 12, there have been a total of 24 positive cases. There have been a total of 1,694 cumulative positive cases.
    • Pflugerville ISD: For the week of November 7 – November. 12, there have been a total of 0 positive cases. There have been a total of 1,115 cumulative positive cases.
    • Hays CISD: As of November 8, there are 51 active student cases and 7 active staff cases. In total, there are 969 cumulative student affairs and 165 cumulative human resources.
  • Texas Public Schools (2021-22 school year; updated Friday with data from the previous Monday through Sunday)
    • Cumulative Positive Student Cases: 211,788
    • Cumulative Positive Workforce Cases: 38,865
