Austria imposes national lockdown as Covid-19 crisis deepens

The cabinet also announced plans to make vaccinations mandatory from 1 February next year.

The national lockdown starting Monday will last for a minimum of 10 days and could be extended for another 10 days, Schallenberg told reporters at a news conference in Vienna.

The move comes just days after Austria imposed lockdown measures on all those aged 12 and older who have not been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
About 65% of the Austrian population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lower percentages in the European Union where the number of cases is increasing.

This is an exciting story, more to come…
