Buffalo Bills radio play-by-play announcer John Murphy confirmed he has tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss his first game in 20 years on Sunday when WGR-AM hosts the team’s game against the New York Jets in New Jersey.
In a brief phone interview, Murphy said he started sniffling and chilling on Tuesday and tested positive on Wednesday.
“I’d feel worse if I miss a game,” Murphy burst out.
He said he has been fully vaccinated and is considering getting a booster shot.
Murphy has been doing radio play-by-play since 2004 and was previously the analyst alongside the late Van Miller. He has worked on Bills games for 34 years.
He said the last Bills game he missed was in Jacksonville in October 2001, when his father, Matthew, died.
Paul Dottino, who covers the New York Giants for WFAN radio and who has made the Giants’ preseason games playable when radio voice Bob Papa does the television play-by-play, will team up with analyst Eric Wood and sideline reporter Sal Capaccio on Sunday. . on WGR and the Bills radio network.
Murphy hopes to return after his 10-day quarantine for Bills’ home game against Indianapolis on Nov. 21.
