Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora tests positive for COVID-19; will miss roadtrip vs. Tampa Bay Rays

BOSTON – red Sox Manager Alex Cora tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the team’s three-game road trip against the Rays, which begins on Friday.

Cora, who has been vaccinated and boosted, has had mild symptoms. He had been staying in a hotel room for the past week after one of his children tested positive.

Bench coach Will Venable will lead the team in Cora’s absence.

Cora’s positive test follows a series of COVID-related absences for the Red Sox in recent days. Catcher Christian Vázquez and infielder Jonathan Araúz was located on the COVID-19 injury list Tuesday, joins catcher Kevin Plawecki, which was placed on the list on Monday. The red socks reinserted Vázquez from the list on Wednesday.
