Brewerton Man Convicted of Stealing Nearly $34,000 in Social Security Benefits

Syracuse, NY — A Brewerton man was sentenced Tuesday to three years’ probation for stealing $33,812 in Social Security benefits that didn’t belong to him, the New York attorney general said.

Frederick L. Guth, Jr., 67, accidentally received the money between November 2016 and January 2018, the attorney general’s office said in a press release.

Guth knew the money was not his, but spent it anyway, the release said.

He must repay the amount in full to the Social Security Service.
