Browns RB’s Nick Chubb, Demetric Felton tests positive for COVID-19

The Cleveland Browns backfield will be in doubt for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

Browns running backs Nick Chubb and Demetric Felton tested positive for COVID-19, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

Both backs have been vaccinated, so they are not immediately ruled out for week 10. Each player would need two negative tests 24 hours apart to play.

ESPN first announced the news.

If Chubb, the engine of the Cleveland attack, can’t play in New England on Sunday, it would be a huge blow to the Browns running club. Chubb missed two games earlier this season due to a calf injury. In Sunday’s win over Cincinnati, the back provided 137 yards and two TDs on just 14 carry (9.79 YPA).

With Kareem Hunt still on the injured reserve and backup John Kelly placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, D’Ernest Johnson is currently the only healthy runner on the roster.

Johnson made his way for 146 yards and a TD on 22 carries in Week 7 when both Chubb and Hunt were out. The Browns may have to lean back on the 25-year-old if Chubb and pass-catching Felton aren’t acquitted on Sunday.
