Cerner and social security partner to improve disability requirements

Cerner ind enter into an agreement with the U.S. Social Security Administration to help simplify claims for disability benefits for patients through clinical electronic retrieval of medical records.

The agreement aims to speed up the transfer of relevant, patient-oriented medical records from the healthcare systems to the SSA, according to a press release on 17 February.

Currently, most of the medical records received by SSA are faxed or sent, which is a process that causes significant delay in the disability determination process.

Through this collaboration, Cerner and SSA will be able to automate data to ease administrative burdens, reduce costs and labor, and eliminate paperwork issuance.

Cerner will pilot the initiative with three of its customers in the coming months with plans to expand the offering to additional customers who choose to participate.
