Joey Bosa was removed from the Chargers’ COVID-19 roster in time to play Sunday night’s Los Angeles home game against the Steelers, the team announced on Saturday. The veteran defense end was placed on the team’s COVID-19 list on Tuesday.

Bosa, a three-time Pro Bowler, has had 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in nine games this season. Bosa has racked up 53 career sacks since breaking into the NFL in 2016. Despite Bosa’s presence, the Chargers defense is currently last in the NFL against the run, ranking only 31st in the league in efficiency as third. The unit allows an average of just 206 passing yards per game, which is the fourth-lowest total in the NFL for 10 weeks.

Both the Chargers and Steelers received positive news on Saturday. The day started with news that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had been activated from the team’s COVID-19 roster and is expected to start Sunday night. Roethlisberger was inactive last Sunday for Pittsburgh’s draw against Detroit.

Sunday night’s game features two teams that are in the thick of it as far as the AFC play-off picture is concerned. The Steelers would be the sixth-seeded AFC team if the playoffs started today, while the Los Angels (5-4) would be the seventh and final playoff seed.
