China closes 30,000 visitors at Shanghai Disneyland after one guest contracted Covid-19

More than 30,000 visitors to the Shanghai Disneyland theme park were held inside the park’s gates on Sunday and forced to undergo Covid-19 testing after a customer tested positive for the virus, a move underscoring China’s eradication efforts.

With fireworks exploding above them as they waited for nasal swabs, Disney visitors became the newest Chinese residents to experience living under a “zero tolerance” policy for the virus imposed by their country’s government. Leaders there have taken strict measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country, despite criticism from business groups and a vaccination rate of nearly 80%.
