China says US representative will attend Afghanistan meeting in China – Metro US

BEIJING (Reuters) – A US representative will attend a meeting with Chinese, Russian and Pakistani envoys on Afghanistan this week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

The Chinese Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, will host this meeting, said Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the ministry.

The US Embassy in China has not immediately commented.

The envoy meeting will take place while foreign ministers from Afghanistan’s neighbors meet on Wednesday and Thursday in eastern China’s Anhui province, Wang said.

The ministerial meeting is chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and attended by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi along with diplomats from Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Qatar.
