Chinese envoy urges efforts to put China-US ties back on track

Chinese Ambassador to the United States Qin Gang said on Tuesday that China is ready to work with the US government and visionary people to get bilateral relations back on track.

Speaking at the annual gala hosted by the National Committee on US-China Relations, Qin said the two sides should adhere to the spirit of the telephone conversation between the two leaders, strengthen dialogue, manage differences and should focus on collaboration.

It was Qin’s first major public event in the US since he took office.

The ambassador stressed that China’s policy towards the US is very consistent and stable.

The Chinese side always considers the fundamental interests of the people of both countries and the whole world, and treats China-US relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, he said.

“Some people say that the relationship between China and the US cannot go back to the past. But is that why people take the light or even damage it the way they want? We reject this view,” said Qin.

Former United States Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger and former US Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao also made comments during the dinner. Ming Hsieh, a Chinese-American entrepreneur and philanthropist, has been honored for his contributions to the development of China-US relations.
