Chinese tariffs Fuel boom in US trade with tech exporter Taiwan

US trade with Taiwan is booming as the self-governing island capitalizes on rising demand for its computer chips and recalls factories from China, where many US exports, including electronics, are subject to 25% tariffs.

Taiwan is now number 8 globally in trade with the US, just behind the UK and ahead of Vietnam. It exported a record $72 billion worth of goods to the US in the 12 months to September. That’s about 70% more than in 2017, the year before the Trump administration imposed tariffs on China.
