Countries to visit without Covid-19 test requirements
International travel is gradually returning to its pre-pandemic levels. However, many aspiring travelers are reluctant to book a flight to countries that require a test before arrival. Perhaps, to the surprise of many, there are more countries without Covid-19 test requirements for tourists.

America
A nearby international trip can be easier to achieve when traveling to the Caribbean or Latin America. Several of these nations are also less likely to have travel restrictionssuch as having to be fully vaccinated to drop the test before arrival.
Mexico
Mexico has no test or vaccine requirements. It is possible to visit by land or air from the United States.
Dominican Republic
There are no test or vaccine requirements to visit the Dominican Republic. This Caribbean island has some of the most gentle entry requirements and luxurious resorts for one Spring holiday. Random health screening at the entrance control may still occur.
Costa Rica
From 1 April 2022, international visitors will no longer need to present proof of vaccination or Covid-19 travel insurance. However, one of these certificates is required for entry during March 2022.
Aruba
Travelers no longer need to present a negative test before arrival or vaccination certificate from March 19, 2022. However, all visitors must carry Aruba Visitor Insurance.
Belize
Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to get a negative test before arrival. Nevertheless, all visitors need a valid travel health insurance and are advised to stay in a publicly approved accommodation.
El Salvador
El Salvador has not required a test or vaccine before arrival since November 2021.
US Virgin Islands
While part of the United States, this island community has different access requirements. Unvaccinated travelers must have a negative test result to enter. Fully vaccinated travelers do not have to present a negative test result before arrival.
Puerto Rico
You can waive the test requirement by showing proof of vaccination. This requirement applies to any visitor at least two years of age or older.
Europe
Several European nations are also dropping their test requirements for international visitors. Specifically, most countries on the continent remove the test mandate for fully vaccinated and recently recovered travelers to reflect EU non-essential travel ban expires.
While entry requirements may vary from country to country, other EU members waiving the Covid-19 test mandate for fully vaccinated and recently recovered include:
- France
- Germany
- Italy
- Portugal
- Spain
- Switzerland
- Czech Republic
- Turkey
Below are several more lenient countries for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers. These countries may also include travelers who need a booster shot to regain their fully vaccinated status but do not want to delay travel.
Ireland
The Republic of Ireland dropped its vaccine and test requirements with effect from 6 March 2022. You still have to comply with the UK entry guidelines if you also want to push a visit to Northern Ireland.
The United Kingdom
From 18 March 2022, international visitors no longer need to present a negative test before arrival or proof of vaccine to enter the UK. In the past, the nation required post-arrival tests and quarantine periods for many visitors.
Northern Europe
Most of Northern Europe has been closed to outsiders during almost the entire pandemic. Fortunately, it is now possible to visit these countries without restrictions:
Finland also reopened recently without restrictions, but only for vaccinated travelers.
It is useful to note that Iceland was one of the first European nations to reopen. However, visitors should be fully vaccinated. The nation was also one of the first to drop Covid restrictions, which are common throughout Europe.
Balkans
It is also possible to visit these nations without restrictions in the Balkans:
- Hungary
- Montenegro
- Romania
- Slovenia
Africa
Vaccinated and recently recovered travelers can enter a few African nations without test restrictions. However, most countries still have a mandatory Covid-19 entrance test.
Egypt
Vaccinated travelers may waive the pre-arrival test requirement that unvaccinated travelers must undergo.
Tunisia
Tunisia also does not require a Covid-19 test for vaccinated travelers visiting mainland Africa.
Mauritius
You do not need a pre-arrival test if you are fully vaccinated. However, a post-arrival test is required on day zero of your stay. As a result, this is essentially a de facto test requirement that may surprise travelers.
Middle East and Asia
Travel is still prohibited for unvaccinated travelers. Much of Asia still requires fully vaccinated travelers to have a Covid-19 test to enter. A handful of nations in near Asia and the actual Asia are also resilient to pre-arrival tests.
Jordan
Jordan has no test requirements for vaccinated or unvaccinated travelers. Unfortunately, this nation is the exception to the rule for this part of the world.
India
India does not require a mandatory test for vaccinated visitors. Unvaccinated visitors are welcome in one of the world’s most populous nations, but must have a sample before arrival.
Nepal
Nepal allows vaccinated travelers to enter without restrictions. Unvaccinated travelers are unable to visit at this time.
Maldives
The Maldives ended its public health emergency on 13 March 2022. As a result, there are currently no vaccination or test requirements for tourists. The island nation also allowed the quarantine period to expire.
Although this country is one of the most difficult to reach from the United States, it has been open to much of the pandemic. It is also still one of the ultimate luxury travel destinations.
Seychelles
As another favorite in the Indian Ocean competing with the Maldives, the Seychelles is also relinquishing its test requirements. Fully vaccinated travelers will no longer need to undergo a pre-arrival test. This test exemption came into force on 15 March 2022.
The United States still requires a test to return from foreign travel
While it is possible for U.S. citizens to avoid the Covid-19 test to leave the country for unnecessary travel, there is a required test to return. Citizens and visitors of at least two years flying to the United States must have a negative Covid-19 test within 24 hours of flying to the United States.
This test requirement does not have an expiration date. It is also likely to expire if worldwide infection rates can remain low and stable. However, as the infection rate starts to rise again in Europe and other countries, this is likely to delay any expiration of this requirement in the next few weeks.
Another indicator may be TSA federal mask mandate on public transport. The current expiration date is April 18, 2022, and officials are considering whether to extend this mandate again.
Summary
Travel groups request the cessation of mandatory international tests as coronavirus protocols are adapted. Visiting a country without mandatory testing means a minor pre-journey action for the traveler and the airline responsible for verifying the data. This list of countries can grow if the global health situation improves.
