Although the number of active COVID-19 cases across the region is rapidly declining in Rockwall County, there was an increase in local deaths attributed to the virus.
The Rockwall ISD COVID-19 scoreboard indicated that nine students and an employee from Wednesday were allegedly infected with COVID-19. It should be compared to 18 students and six employees a week earlier and 240 students and 30 employees three weeks ago.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported 19,801 cumulative positive COVID-19 cases in Rockwall County, 54 more than a week earlier.
Despite the declining number of infections, the state agency indicated that 253 people had died from COVID-19, six more than a week earlier and 11 deaths in two weeks.

Hospitals in Trauma Service Area E, a 19-county North Texas region that includes Rockwall County, reported 1,269 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, a drop of 607 cases in one week.
