LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The number of active COVID-19 cases rose slightly on Thanksgiving Day, while hospitalizations fell by almost 10%.
6,173 active cases of the virus were reported on Thursday. This is an increase of 11 from the previous day.
The Arkansas Department of Health released data showing there were an additional 579 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 524,403.
The death toll rose by nine in data released Thursday, with 8,652 people dying from the virus since the start of the pandemic.
Currently, 312 patients have been hospitalized because of the virus, 32 fewer than Wednesday.
From Thursday 64 people on a ventilator, two fewer people than the day before.
9,311 new vaccine doses of COVID-19 have been given to Arkansans in the past 24 hours.
In light of the lower COVID numbers, Governor Asa Hutchinson thanked frontline workers who helped during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Today’s case report is lower than last week,” Hutchinson said in a Tweet. “As we celebrate the blessings of life today, I hope you will all join me in thanking our frontline workers who continue to work in the face of this pandemic.”
