COVID-19 numbers on decline in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) – Governor Andy Beshear shares that Kentucky is “moving to a much better place” when it comes to the state’s COVID-19 numbers.

“The trend we are moving certainly gives us hope that we are moving from pandemic to endemic,” Beshear said.

As of Monday, 969 new cases of COVID were reported in Kentucky, along with a COVID positivity rate of 12.74%.

21 deaths were recorded on Monday.

Of eligible Kentuckies, 69% are vaccinated.

Currently, 1,333 people are hospitalized, 270 people are in intensive care units, and 141 are on a respirator.

Kentucky’s vaccination rate has generally declined, especially in school-age children, Governor Beshear said.

The governor says he does not think it is entirely safe to go mask optional in schools, he believes schools that have done so did so prematurely. Beshear asks people to be patient for the next few weeks.
