- Bill Gates believes the risk of getting a serious COVID-19 infection is “dramatically reduced.”
- In an interview with CNBC, he also said he thought another pandemic would occur.
- “We’ll get another pandemic. It’s going to be another pathogen next time,” Gates said.
Bill Gates has expressed his views on COVID-19 and future pandemics in a new interview.
Talking to CNBC At Germany’s annual security conference in Munich on Friday, he said the risk of experiencing serious illness from COVID-19 is “dramatically reduced.”
“The chance of serious illness, which is mainly associated with being older and having obesity or
these risks are now dramatically reduced due to the infection exposure, “he said.
He added, however, that he believes the world will see another pandemic.
“We’ll get another pandemic. It’s going to be another pathogen next time,” Gates told CNBC.
But Microsoft co-founder said he believed that if there was a rational answer, then “we’ll catch it early” and it “will not be global like it did this time.”
As for whether it is possible to completely prevent another pandemic, Gates told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble: “If all countries did what Australia did, you would not call it a pandemic.”
Gates has become a prominent figure in the fight against COVID-19 by promising billions for action.
Before COVID-19 appeared, he had predicted the world would suffer from a pandemic along with notable disease and flu experts.
In a 2015 TED talkGates said the world “was not ready for the next epidemic.”
This month, the billionaire announced that his new book will examine his views on how to prevent the next pandemic.
