Humboldt County Public Health today reported the deaths of two COVID-19 residents, one in his 70s and another in his 80s or older. Two new admissions were reported, one resident in his 40s and one in his 60s.

A further 59 confirmed positive cases were reported as well as 21 new probable cases for the period between Tuesday 12 April and Tuesday 19 April. The total number of confirmed cases in the county is 17,174. A further 3,040 cases are reported as probable. *

Local vaccination data have been updated. Highlights include:

  • Since the last weekly report on April 13, a further 683 residents completed their vaccine series.
  • A total of 89,601 individuals, or about 66% of the county’s total population, were fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.

The significant increase in fully vaccinated residents reported this week is attributed to people completing their vaccination series, and to the state reviewing and reorganizing data as it relocates recipients to the relevant jurisdictions.

Earlier this week, the Transportation Security Administration announced it would stop enforcing masking requirements for aircraft and other public transportation after a federal judge overturned the mandate. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation.

Individuals should stay home and away from others and be tested if they become ill or experience COVID-19 symptoms that may include fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue or muscle aches.

OptumServe offers fast antigen testing and PCR testing services at the Wharfinger site in Eureka daily from 7 to kl. lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling 888-634-1123.

Vaccines remain readily available and, as always, Humboldt County’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. Walk-ins are welcome at all public health clinics and some pharmacies’ vaccination sites. You can also book an appointment at MyTurn.ca.gov.

The second booster shot of Pfizer and Moderna is now available at all Humboldt County Public Health vaccine clinics for those 50 and older, as well as certain immunocompromised individuals, as long as it is four months since your first booster shot. Those interested in an extra booster can also check with pharmacies for availability.
