The county’s mask mandate is in effect until the seven-day positivity rate falls below five percent for seven consecutive days. When that happens, the mask health rule ends automatically. Children and adults should continue to wear masks in public areas and around people they do not live with. Public Health recommends that all individuals, including those who have been vaccinated, continue to wear masks in high-risk environments such as large gatherings and residential environments.
As the total number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Mecklenburg County and the state continues to fall, Mecklenburg County commissioners voted earlier this month to lower the threshold for the rule. The new public health rule mentioned above will come into effect on November 17.
