The Dallas Cowboys will have to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday without one of their best assault weapons. On Friday, the Cowboys announced that they had placed Amari Cooper with starting wide receiver on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning he will be knocked out of Sunday’s matchup. ESPN’s Todd Archer reports that Cooper will also miss the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to ESPN, Cooper has not been vaccinated, meaning he will be quarantined for 10 days. He won’t be able to return until Monday, November 29 at the earliest, so even if the Cowboys-Raiders game was on Sunday instead of Thursday, he wouldn’t have been able to adapt. However, he must clear COVID protocols in time for Dallas’ Week 13 game against the Saints on December 2.

In nine games this season, Cooper has caught 44 passes for 583 yards and five touchdowns. All of these are in second place behind co-starter CeeDee Lamb. Without Cooper in the lineup, expect Michael Gallup, who recently returned to the field, to see more action in the passing game. Also look for Cedrick Wilson to perform, as he has at certain points this season.

Cooper may not be the only Cowboy to miss Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, as offensive tackle Tyron Smith (ankle), cornerback Nahshon Wright (shoulder) and cornerback Kelvin Joseph (Personal) are questionable to play.
