Daughter turns to Ted after mom’s washing machine repair stalled for months


HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — When Rita Brown bought her mom a new washer and dryer for Christmas, they were on back order.

When it finally arrived in February, she continued to have problems.

“If mom was washing clothes, the washing machine wouldn’t run. The water would have to be submerged with the cup out,” Brown said. “My mom has arthritis, very, very bad in both hands. So that was really annoying.”

Brown doesn’t live near her mother, but often stopped by to help with the laundry so her arthritis wouldn’t flare up from wringing the clothes out by hand.

“It was a terrible burden because she couldn’t wash clothes,” Brown said.

When the problem kept appearing every time she washed her clothes, she called the manufacturer, GE, who sent a technician to find out what was wrong.

Brown said the first technician found nothing wrong, but every time her mom washed her clothes, it still didn’t drain properly, so she called GE again.

“The third service technician who came out identified the motherboard as faulty and after they (went to) order the parts, which were on back order, which would have taken about two months,” said Brown.

After months of waiting for repairs, Brown decided she just wanted to send it back so she could buy a new one, but when that didn’t work, she turned to Ted.

“I contacted Channel 13 because you are doing a great job. You always help everyone with the problems they have. If you hadn’t been involved, we would probably still have the same problem,” Brown said.

We called GE and they called Brown and asked if she wanted a new washer or a refund. She said she would like a refund and soon the company picked up the faulty washing machine and handed over a check for the $578 she paid for it.

“Fantastic. The burden is lightened,” Brown said. “If anyone has any problems, they should contact you, because you are amazing.”

Brown used the refund to buy her mom another washing machine, and so far she says it’s going well.
