
Detective at the NHC sheriff’s department dies of Covid-19
NEW HANOVER COUNTY – A detective who served the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department has passed away, the office said Wednesday.
Detective Michael Godwin of Wilmington died Sunday, February 27th. AAfter receiving Covid-19, he was admitted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he died.
Godwin served the department for nine years, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. He was a native of Wilmington, graduated from New Hanover High School and completed an associate degree in computer science.
The 41-year-old also played guitar in the band Silver Judas and practiced martial arts. He was a first-class black belt and a teacher of Shoshin Ryu martial arts.
