Distant intellectual property prospects on Covid-19 vaccines are blurring

An agreement to waive the intellectual property rights underpinning Covid-19 vaccines – a prospect poor countries had hoped would facilitate supplies to developing countries – is becoming increasingly unlikely, people familiar with the situation say , as the US does not act over disagreements between developing countries and those who oppose such a measure.

In May, the Biden administration said it would support the temporary suspension of patents and other intellectual property related to the injections to allow developing countries to produce the Covid-19 vaccines made by major pharmaceutical companies.
