Douglas County Jail treats first major COVID-19 outbreak

SUPERIOR, Erase. – The Douglas County Jail is recovering after the first major COVID-19 outbreak hit more than two dozen inmates.

Sheriff Tom Dalbec told FOX 21 on Wednesday that 33 inmates have tested positive for the virus in the past two weeks.

The problem exploded after a few inmates felt unwell and eventually tested positive for the virus.

Once the unit they were in was quarantined and tested, the number of positive cases rose to 33.

22 of the 33 inmates were vaccinated.

On Tuesday, there were eight pending cases in prison.

Dalbec said inmates are required to wear masks unless in their private cells.
