GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – We see a small increase in the case of COVID-19, but not a rapid increase in serious illness.

Prevea President and CEO Dr. Ashok Rai joined Action 2 News this morning to give us an update on the situation in our area and why it is important to continue to stop the spread.

COINCIDENCE

“We are certainly seeing a slight increase in cases, and you can see on all our graphs today that the total number of cases being reported is starting to rise a bit. What you are not seeing is underreporting here because there happens some tests at home that we do not see reported.Even more importantly, what you do not see is a rapid increase in serious illness, which would be measured by those who enter the hospital.

“Even though we are seeing increased disease activity, it means COVID is not gone, we are not seeing it as seriously as we have in the past. Normally we would at this point. We would start to see cases increase, and about a week or two later we would start to see hospital admissions Across the country, even in areas where cases are really rising, we do not see the level of hospitalization that we have seen before. That may be a good sign, but it is too early to say. “

TEST

“COVID is still around and it’s important to prevent it from spreading, which means that if you have symptoms, you need to be tested. Either a home test, which is the home antigen test that comes to your healthcare provider, the state of Wisconsin still has partnerships like Prevea, where you can be tested for free.It is important to be tested and if you are positive to stay home for the five days, relax, get better and then go back to work or school. The most important thing is if you have symptoms “or have been exposed to someone with COVID, to be tested. This will help us reduce the spread.”

TREATMENT

“I would say that especially in our area it is underutilized. Maybe it’s just a lack of education and that we are talking about it. If you say, over 65, or you have underlying medical conditions such as severe obesity, diabetes, elevated blood pressure, you can qualify for treatment. This means that if you are positive – tested at a medical facility, tested at a pharmacy, tested at home – it is important to contact your health care provider and get treatment. The thing with treatments is that we need to start it right away.So within the first five days. Some of these treatments are pills like paxlovid. We just need that recipe. There are pharmacies that have it in town. So it’s really important if you’re sure you’re contacting us so we can get you treated. ”

MASKING

“It’s important to understand that the medical community still feels that masking is a good mitigation. Mitigation does not mean you have to do it all the time. That’s when you go for it. When we do not get into the legal aspects of it, of course, we begin to see an increase in cases, but we do not begin to see an increase in serious illness. So right now the masking may be beneficial or not.It will certainly be beneficial to prevent spread. But right now, if the goal of the country is, and it can be discussed, to prevent the serious disease, then let’s see what happens without the masks.Unfortunately we will see it right now in public transport, or fortunately depending on which side you are on , and we need to see if we start to see an increase in cases. What we need to understand is that if we start to see this disease get out of control, where we start to see hospitalizations, then we become need to mitigate and we may need to discuss masking again at that time. “

BOOSTERE

“The people who should be boosted are the ones we are worried about. We have COVID in our society, there is no doubt about that. We know it can affect some people and some people can get very sick – them over 50s, especially those over 65s, those with underlying health conditions affecting their immune system, these are people we really need to get to and be boosted right now.Although it’s going on in our society and we might be able to consider it mild, it will not be mild in the two population groups. It is really important to communicate to them, to get them boosted and to ensure that our admissions do not increase. And we begin to understand how COVID works in the rest of Society and keep everyone safe. “
