Easter meetings raise concerns about the increase in COVID-19 cases

After a long weekend of holiday celebrations, health officials are concerned that the area may see another increase in COVID-19 cases.

On Long Island, the positivity rate has slowly risen over the last few weeks.

While some health experts urge residents to wear a mask indoors in public places, Gov. Kathy Hochul says no mask mandates or shutdowns will return to New York.

Pr. On April 14, the positivity rate on Long Island was 5.57%, but a month ago it was 1.67%.

As of today, Philadelphia will be the first major city to reinstate an indoor mask mandate due to a 55% increase in COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks.

In New York, masks on public transportation will be needed for another two weeks. The mask mandate was due to expire today, but has been extended to 3 May.

Experts warn residents that if they are not feeling well, to be tested.
