Republicans warned against Democrats’ policies that led to the 40-year high inflation that robs workers of their paychecks and have consistently offered solutions to help families. Instead of working across the board, Democrats claim Republicans have no answer – and news media erroneously repeats the claim.
Here are the facts:
ASSERTION: “So what do you think of the Republicans’ plans to lower prices? Unfortunately, hard to say. Because they do not exist.”
FACT: If the Democrats wanted to take seriously 40 years of high inflation and the skyrocketing gas price, they would stop the gimmicks and work with the Republicans to counter rising costs by:
Ways and means Republican leadership representative Kevin Brady (R-TX) has urged Democrats to work with Republicans and stop making inflation worse: “I would love to work with the president on this issue, but he just does not have discussions with Republicans on these political issues.”
Rep. Brady has offered solutions, saying to we can fight inflation by making workers a top priority, stopping emergency spending, making tax reform permanent and helping the supply side of the economy.
ASSERTION: “President Biden’s bill on stimulation in March 2021 probably helped reduce unemployment much faster than predicted, preventing some of the long-term ‘scarring’ workers who experienced after the Great Recession.”
FACT: Democrats $ 2 trillion so-called “stimulus” prolonged unemployment and boosted inflation, despite warnings from former Obama-Biden administration officials as former director of the National Economic Council Larry Summers and former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Jason Furman..
ASSERTION: “Other countries are also facing high inflation, and they did not pass Biden’s US bailout plan. On the contrary, they are facing the same supply-side constraints as we are.”
FACT: The United States has higher inflation than most developed countries, and that characteristic was President Biden’s so-called stimulus.
- Analysis from the San Francisco Fed shows that US inflation is leading the world largely because of the “major fiscal support measures aimed at counteracting the economic collapse due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
- A diagram from TheRightFacts.org using Consumer Price Index (CPI) data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that inflation has risen since the day President Biden took office in January 2021 and began its rise to fastest speed in 40 years the month immediately after Democrats hit their party-political $ 1.9 trillion bill (March 2021).
ASSERTION: “Republicans argue [Build Back Better] would make inflation worse. “Biden has sometimes argued that this agenda would reduce inflation. My own view: It would probably have a negligible effect on inflation in both ways, and measures such as universal pre-K or climate investment should be judged on their own merits.)”
FACT: Build Back Better would slow our economy, worsen our debt, kill at least 650,000 U.S. jobs and cut workers’ paychecks, according to another new study.
- New analysis on the Democrats’ economic agenda found that “the central conceit of ‘Build Better Back’ – that its higher taxes to finance new spending is growth-promoting – is ultimately unattainable under any plausible scenario.”
- Even one liberal study found that the Democrats’ new childcare plan could increase childcare costs between $ 13,000 to $ 27,000 a year for middle-class families depending on the state.
ASSERTION: “Republicans have thrown out some red herring, such as increasing oil production by ‘reopening’ the Keystone XL pipeline. […] In the same way, Republicans are repeating the mantra ‘energy dependence’, but it is not clear what they mean by that or how they propose to achieve it. “
FACT: President Biden and Congress Democrats have attacked traditional energy and are proposing that raise taxes by $ 145 billion on Made-in-America oil and gaspipeline and refining companies – kill over 1 million jobs, raise fuel prices and leave America more dependent on foreign oil.
ASSERTION: “Their [Republicans’] “Proposals include, for example, requiring every American to pay something in federal income tax, as proposed by the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Rick Scott (Fla.).”
FACT: That Washington Post have denied this claim twice, award President Biden “three (almost four)” Pinocchios, noting that “no legislation has been drafted and no other Republican lawmakers have announced their support.”
BOTTOM LINE: If the Democrats and the Biden administration really made fighting inflation their # 1 priority, they would work with Republicans to improve Main Street optimism, free up US energy production, and promote economic growth.
