‘Emily in Paris’ fans are shocked to discover from Lily Collins that her character, Emily, in the ‘Netflix’ show is only 22 years old.
The actress revealed that ‘Emily’ has just finished her college.
In an interview with ‘Vogue‘, Lily Collins said: “I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific ‘number’ for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college. I want to say she’s like, 22-ish. She’s had enough experience at her company in Chicago to have earned the respect of her boss.”
What Did The Fans Say To Collins’ Revelation About Emily?
Fans were dumbfounded with the statement, and they did not wait to voice out their opinions on the same.
One posted in ‘Twitter’ saying “Excuse me but Emily is supposed to be 22?! And get that job transfer to Paris fresh out of college? Alrighty then.”
One more followed and said that it’s not possible considering the fact that Emily has a masters degree.
Also, another pointed out that Emily has a masters degree, financial stability, was priorly engaged, had amazing job experience in Chicago and so on.
She also freaked out when she got to know that she got intimate with a 17-year-old boy by mistake.
All this proves that she must be around the age of 30.
What Did Critics Find Hard To Digest In The Show?
Netflix debuted the series in the first week of October, and although many liked it, some of the real Parisian critics were not so impressed by the ‘cliche’ attitude of the show towards Paris.
French commentators are not pleased to see the show being crammed with every possible cliche trait about the French.
Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel in the series, in his interview with ‘Cosmopolitan’ told about how the show was viewed by some foreign critics. He believes they do bring out a valid point.
He states “I think they’re right, in a way. We’re portraying cliches, and we’re portraying one single vision of Paris.”
He also added that Paris is amongst the most diverse cities in the world. There are varied point of views, different nationalities, distinct neighbourhood.
Bravo went on to say that even one whole lifetime would prove less to know everything about Paris. It consists of an entire world in a single city.
However, he said that it must also be understood that the intention was to show one definite vision of Paris. Critics are failing to understand that the show is not trying to say that that is all that Paris had to offer
‘Emily In Paris’ is created by Darren Star, who was also the creator of ‘Sex and the City’.
The show has not yet been renewed for a second season by Netflix.
Bravo said that he believed that Darren Star is looking to create a second season that is far more open-minded.
Besides Collins and Bravo, ‘Emily in Paris’ consists of stars like Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu and Samuel Arnold.
