First case of juvenile monkeypox identified in New York

According to health officials, the first case of monkeypox in anyone under the age of 18 has been identified in New York.

Data posted to the state health department’s website only says that’s the case in a patient living outside of New York City.

It is one of 192 probable and confirmed cases of the virus reported outside the Big Apple.

Within New York City, there were 2,596 cases as of Friday, according to the city’s DOH.

The virus is usually spread through close contact with an infected person or by touching objects they have used, such as clothing or towels.
