A federal judge will hear arguments Dec. 7 in Florida’s request for a preliminary injunction to block the Biden administration’s efforts to require employees of federal contractors to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday has scheduled the hearing this week, which will take place in Tampa. The office of Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s filed a 26-page motion for a preliminary injunction as part of a lawsuit alleging that President Joe Biden overstepped his authority with the requirements.

The Moody’s office also argues that the requirements would harm Florida because government agencies have contracts with the federal government. As an example, it cited a $12 million contract that the University of Florida received from NASA last year.

The vaccination requirements are scheduled to come into effect on January 4.

Biden issued an executive order in September that initiated a process leading to the requirements. The lawsuit is part of a series of moves by Government Leader Ron DeSantis and other Republican state leaders to fight vaccination and mask mandates during the pandemic. The state is part of a separate case before the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals challenging a Biden administration rule requiring workers to vaccinate at major employers.
