Fourth Stimulus Check Update 2022: What’s the situation in each state?

With the Omicron variant making its way across the US, there has been more push for further economic support for US people and businesses. The variant’s high contagiousness forces thousands of people out of work, putting pressure on them as federal aid like the Child Tax Credit phases out.

While very few states have committed to an incentive scheme in the form of the Economic Impact Payments, quite a few have some additional pandemic-related support that state residents can access.

So which states have some form of stimulus controls?

The standout state is California, which has the only real form of incentive checks, and these are just the latest payments from a plan laid out last year.

Others, like Alaska, have state-run dividend packages that are sent to residents every year. However, these cannot be classified as stimulus controls as they have been around for 50 years and have nothing to do with the covid-19 pandemic. They are not classified in this list.

California stimulus check update

Perhaps the most generous state-sponsored aid initiative comes in California, where two-thirds of residents have a Golden State incentive check worth $600. As of October 31 around 4.5 million of the more than 9 million inhabitants eligible had received their checks. The vast majority of the remaining checks were sent by post from the end of August January 11th.

What other support do states offer?

Arizona stimulus check update

There won’t be a fourth stimulus check in Arizona, but a return-to-work bonus has allowed unemployed residents to $2,000 Instant Payment if they found full-time employment between 13 May and 6 September 2021, provided they were unemployed in May.

Florida stimulus control update

On the back of an additional round of $1,000 stimulus checks for approximately € 170,000 teachers and directors in 2021, as a “thank you” for their work during the pandemic, Florida’s 2022 budget will include a $1,000 bonus for teaching staff.

Indiana stimulus check update

Indiana residents get a state-funded tax refund worth a an estimated $125 each, when they file their 2021 tax returns after the state posted a budget surplus in the previous fiscal year. January 24 is the first day on which U.S. residents can start filing their tax returns.

New York stimulus check update

Undocumented workers in New York City will have access to a $2.1 billion incentive check fund, which will provide some support to those who can’t claim the first two incentive checks. You just have to be one state resident earning less than $26,000 in 2020, and missed the previous stimulus checks.

Another financing plan includes investments in tourism workers who have destroyed their income due to the lack of tourism. This includes funding for startups, as well as investment in tourism-related jobs, according to tweets by Governor Kathy Hochul.

Tennessee stimulus check update

Earlier this year, Tennessee’s state legislature approved SB1358, which provided a “one-time risk bonus of” $1,000 for full-time employees and $500 for part-time workers” from the state’s public schools. These should be received by the end of the year, but like the issues facing the IRS, payments can still be received now.

Texas stimulus control update

Another state targeting educators for the extra stimulus checks is Texas, where individual school districts have introduced several different types bonus schemes to encourage teachers to go back to the classroom. Fort Worth and Arlington have increased district employee wages by 4%; Denton secured a $500 bonus payment; while the Irving school district has promised a $2,000 incentive payment for teachers who return to the classroom in September.
