Governor Cooper is ready to announce the next phase of NC’s COVID-19 response

RALEIGH, NC (WBTV) – Governor Roy Cooper is scheduled to speak on the state of COVID-19 in North Carolina.

The governor is expected to talk about the next phase of the state’s response.

The news conference is scheduled to start at. 11:30. It happens while the state continues to see a decline in new cases.

From Wednesday, the state’s COVID-19 is daily percent-positivity rate was 2.6%, a sharp contrast from the positive rate of 37.8% several weeks ago.

Officials also reported 799 is hospitalized with the virus from Wednesday. This is the lowest number of coronvarius-related admissions the state has seen since July last year.

Cooper’s remarks also come when 69 members of the House Republican Caucus signed a letter urging Cooper to lift the governor’s state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in March 2020.

Most recently, the governor refused to revoke the order due to allowing health authorities continued access to emergency aid from state and federal pools they would not otherwise receive.
