Those payments represent approximately $4.1 billion of the planned $12 billion for the plan that Governor Newsom labeled “the largest state tax cut in American history.” With checks going to about two-thirds of households in the state, or about 15.2 million taxpayers, there are still about 8.7 million payments to go.

The remaining payments will be primarily to taxpayers who receive their tax refunds as a paper check. The Franchise Tax Board Posted a Schedule for When Payments is based on the last three digits of a filer’s zip code.

Some taxpayers may experience delays in receiving their checks

To receive a Golden State Stimulus check, residents had to make a declaration by 15 October 2020 at the latest. However, depending on when a taxpayer filed their application or when it is being processed, this could mean: some Californians may have to wait longer for payment.

For those who filed their taxes after August 20, 2021, an additional waiting period of forty-five days can be expected to process their tax return and check. The California Franchise Tax Board has stated that: “If your tax return is processed after the date of your scheduled zip code payment, please wait up to 60 days.”
