How will COVID end? Why the COVID pandemic may have 3 terminations

It has been now two years ago that the United States shut down due to the increasing amount of Covid-19 cases across the country. And experts are still unsure how the pandemic will get to the end.

Driver news: Pandemics do not all end the same. Each pandemic throughout history has a different ending, mostly because of the science and medicine that was available at the time.

  • But scientists and researchers are looking at past pandemics to find clues as to what comes next with COVID-19.

What they said: Erica Charters from the University of Oxford, who studies pandemic history, told Associated Press that pandemics do not end quickly.

Pandemic often has three types of endings:

  • Medical termination – a time when the disease is not so profound in our society.
  • Political end – when society reduces restrictions and security measures.
  • Social end – when people in society move on from the virus.

Status: That World Health Organization has previously warned the world against assuming the COVID-19 pandemic is over, as there are still cases rising worldwide.

  • Most recently, Hong Kong has felt the bulk of an omicron wave.
  • And researchers are still looking for new COVID-19 variantswhich could reverse the pandemic as quickly as the delta and omicron variants did.

What to expect: Dr. Scott Gottliebthe former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, said in early February that the pandemic may soon end and normalcy will return in the spring, as I wrote to Deseret news.

  • “We do not see anything on the horizon that will dramatically change that trajectory.”
