A well-known athletic trainer was arrested Thursday in Southern California after he was accused of allegedly sexually abusing teenage girls, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
Chris Flores, 37, of Bellflower, was caught during a traffic stop after a warrant was issued for sexual misconduct by a minor.
Police opened an investigation when allegations made by the prominent trainer alleged that he allegedly groomed and touched two minors.
According to the Santa Ana police, allegations against Flores began to circulate when voice recordings leaked on social media surfaced between him and a 14-year-old girl.
In the speech audio obtained exclusively by ABC7, a male voice can be heard asking, “Did you delete anything?” while the minor confirms that the lyrics have been removed.
The man’s voice asks her on a date, but the girl declines his offer.
“Well damn? We can never chill and now you don’t want to go to school,” the man said. “So stop being a dummy.”
Police confirmed that the voice in the audio messages was from Flores. The girl told Santa Ana police that Flores, who served as her coach, allegedly sexually assaulted her multiple times in 2021.
Flores, known as “Coach Frogg”, is associated with several leading college and professional athletes who trained or worked with him.
Former NFL cornerback Jason David expressed his disappointment in a video statement on Instagram, saying he would cut ties with the trainer during the investigation.
David and Flores coached side by side and founded an athletic program called STARS Prep Academy in 2017, according to ESPN.
“Never in a million years would I ever imagine making a public statement addressing allegations of sexual misconduct involving Mr Flores and our innocent little girls,” David said on Instagram. “I am sick to my stomach. I’m disgusted. I am outraged.”
The program uses the Santiago Middle School campus to train in Orange County — where about 100 students were counted in the academic year in 2021, according to ESPN.
High-profile players such as Kansas City Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei have been linked to the Rising STARS program.
Flores is currently in the Orange County Jail and his bail is set at $500,000.
The police believe there are more victims and are calling on everyone to speak out about Flores.
