Is Détente possible?
By Lynda Wheatley | February 11, 2022

Most of us have Ukraine on our minds right now, and if we think of China, we’ll probably limit it to the settings for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Kenneth Jarrett is guaranteed to change that. The former director of Asian Affairs for the U.S. National Security Council, Jarret, will be the next guest at the Northwestern Michigan College International Affairs Forum. February 17 at 18.00 he starts a conversation about China – the topic: Is Détente possible? – with Steve Fisher, IAF co-chair and a former leader who worked 15 years in Asia for the global management company AT Kearney. Expect to hear some nuanced insights into US-China relations, especially where trade and diplomacy intersect. Jarrett – who served 26 years in the foreign service, including as Consul General in Shanghai and as Deputy Consul General in Hong Kong – spent five years as President of the US Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. The event will be broadcast over Zoom. sign up at www.tciaf.com to receive the livestream link and bring your questions to a live Q&A.
