Jen Psaki tests positive for COVID-19

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Sunday she tested positive for COVID-19, despite being vaccinated.

“Wednesday, in consultation with senior White House leadership and the medical team, I made the decision not to travel with the president on a foreign trip due to a family emergency in which members of my household tested positive for COVID-19. 19,” Psaki said in a statement.

The White House said President Biden tested negative for the virus on Sunday, according to Reuters.

Psaki said she tested negative (via PCR) on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“Today, however, I tested positive for COVID. While I haven’t had close personal contact with the president or senior members of the White House staff since Wednesday — and tested negative four days after that last contact — I’m making it positive known today test out an abundance of transparency.

“I last saw the president on Tuesday, when we were more than five feet apart and wearing masks,” Psaki added. “Thanks to the vaccine, I have only experienced mild symptoms, allowing me to continue working from home. I plan to return to work in person at the end of the 10-day quarantine after a negative rapid test, which is an additional requirement from the White House , outside CDC guidelines, taken out of an abundance of caution.”

Last Monday, a day before his last meeting with Psaki, President Biden coughed into his hand after a speech in New Jersey and went on to shake hands with members of the audience, all without wearing a mask.

Psaki’s diagnosis also comes less than two weeks after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas tested positive for COVID-19 just days after an event with the president.

On October 19, a fully vaccinated Mayorkas tested positive for COVID-19 as part of routine pre-travel protocols.

Three days earlier, Mayorkas had attended the 40th Annual Memorial Service of the National Peace Officers at the US Capitol alongside Biden, where they photographed only feet apart without masks.

Later that day, Biden and first lady Jill Biden were caught violating Washington, DC’s indoor mask mandate by walking through an upscale Georgetown restaurant without masks.

Psaki brushed off a question about the incident at the restaurant, saying that people should pay attention to the president’s policies and “not focus too much on moments in time.”
