Lane County Public Health on Thursday reported 51 confirmed or suspected new cases of COVID-19, raising the county-wide case to 57,883. The total local death toll remained at 529.
Coronavirus cases had been on a steep decline after the omicron rise, but now the cases are slowly starting to rise again due to a rise in BA.2, a sub-variant of omicron. The average number of new cases in the past week is 45; the week before it was 28.
The number of county residents reported hospitalized due to the virus Thursday was 12, with two people on intensive care and one on respirator, unchanged from Wednesday. Of the 12 people admitted, 83.3%, or 10, are not fully vaccinated.
As things go up again, LCPH recommends that residents get the boosters they are entitled to, keep the assemblies small, utilize the outdoor areas whenever possible, and consider wearing a mask when in crowded, enclosed spaces. .
As of Monday, 276,806 people in Lane County – 72.58% of the total population – received the first or second dose of vaccine with 679,313 doses administered in Lane County, according to the Oregon Health Authority.
