Maine sends residents incentive checks – NewBostonPost

The state of Maine will send more than half a million people a Disaster Relief Payment before the end of the year.

Governor Janet Mills, a Democrat, announced on Wednesday that 524,754 people will receive a payment of $285.

The state’s website states that those with “adjusted gross incomes of less than $75,000 (or less than $150,000 if filing jointly”) qualify for the check.

“The hard-working men and women who have led our state through the pandemic deserve our appreciation,” Mills said in a press release. “As a result of the bipartisan budget passed by the Legislature and signed by me, my government will send one-time payments of $285 to more than half a million working people in Maine. I hope this will help families in Maine somewhat during the holiday season as we work to fully recover our economy.”

Mills is up for reelection in 2022, likely against her Republican predecessor, Paul LePage.
