A man who drinks his own urine every morning because he believes it’s a natural “cure” says his bizarre habit led to an argument with his roommate — who was sick of the “smell” coming into the kitchen.
The man, named Brother Sage, says he first began the unusual practice nearly two decades ago and is currently teaching a course for up to $345 for students looking to unlock the secrets of their own urine.
The 68-year-old, from Colorado, claims he often stores the urine he passes at night for an early morning drink, but has also been known to age it for up to three years and even uses it as a foot bath or one eye bath.
He claims that some of his faithful followers even gave their children woe to drink and “watch their health be restored” – while others bathed their dogs in it.
While there’s no concrete scientific evidence that drinking urine provides health benefits, Brother Sage swears by it and believes it cures everything from viruses to sunburn.
But despite his many fans, Brother Sage claims that he recently broke up with his roommate about the “stinky” practice and is now looking for another location to practice “urotherapy” in the future.

Brother Sage said, “I wake up in the morning and drink what I’ve kept overnight.
“Most people drink it first thing in the morning, and people who are fasting or doing a detox do ‘loop’, meaning everything they collect is drunk throughout the day.
“The cleaner you can get your food, the better it looks, tastes and smells.”
Despite his teaching having been published in his five books, Brother Sage claims he encounters “naysayers” who question his faith—and most recently, he shut the horns with his roommate over “stinky” urine.
Brother Sage said, “I understand the naysayers or the doubters, but I’ve learned to be compassionate with people because they don’t know what this is yet.
Brother Sage said he once had a conversation with a roommate who complained about the smell of urine in their kitchen

“If this is your lifestyle, it’s a good idea to reach out to potential roommates so they know you’re doing this in your room, bathroom, or house, so there’s never a moment of ‘Surprise, I’m doing urine therapy’.” to be.
‘That caused a hiccup in the house where I am now and I am just adjusting where I now do my practice and starting to look for a new location.
“The bedroom and my bathroom are too close to the kitchen, so smells run down the hall.
‘I’m [now] either practice in the yard, go to a nearby location or hot springs and spend three days there just having fun with it, then it’s out of my system.

The ‘urotherapist’ uses his urine both internally and topically and says that no disease cannot be cured if you understand how the body works
“When there’s something so dear to you, it feels like a compromise that you can’t do the exercise.
“We had a nice conversation – heart to heart – and there is no hard feeling. We just need to make some adjustments.’
Brother Sage claims he is helping build an international community of urotherapy practitioners – and he says there are people all over the world who consume their own urine or use it locally.
Brother Sage said, “I started urine therapy in 1994. It was… [initially] a total spiritual connection for me and nothing to do with health.
Brother Sage promotes his work on Facebook and holds a workshop to teach people about the properties of their own urine, charging $185 per person and $345 for couples

“As the years went on, I realized there were some things I wanted to improve with my health.
‘I increased the use, the dosages. There are over 24 topical uses on the skin, eyes and ears.
‘People heal everything, because incurable diseases don’t exist if you understand how the body works.
“They cure everything from mosquito bites, sunburn, wasp stings to gum disease.
“We have a woman who works with a 21-year-old man with autism who is seeing results.
Now Brother Sage is preparing to teach his 12th course on urotherapy for students and couples – which he promises will teach people the basics of the practice
The urotherapist said that some people who studied with him are now teaching others to drink urine too
“The most unusual thing is that people give it to their pets and their children and watch as their health is restored.
‘We realized that’ [urine] is a universal panacea. You can use that of a man and a woman and cross it. That of a dog, a child, a human, non-human – it works anyway.
‘Some people have constipation and intestinal problems. What they do is a whole GI flush.
‘Some do old urine enemas, but if you want to clean the entire GI tract, drink a full liter of urine and within 20 or 30 minutes you’d better be near a toilet as there will be waves of bowel movements.
IS DRINKING URINE REALLY GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH?
Urine therapy is said to date back to the Bible. Historical documents suggest that the Aztecs used it to disinfect wounds, while its benefits are also mentioned in Indian and Chinese literature.
Fans of “urotherapy,” a term used for drinking your own pee, include Madonna.
In 1945, John W. Armstrong, a British naturopath, published a book claiming that drinking urine could cure all serious illnesses, but there is no scientific evidence for this.
Urine is very sterile and consists of 95 percent water and five percent nutrients such as proteins, vitamins and minerals. During the digestive process, the liver deals with toxins and removes them to be excreted.
The blood then goes to the kidneys where it is filtered again and foreign components no longer needed by the body are trapped in a sterile solution which is then excreted as urine.
But GP Dr Rob Hicks told the Mail: ‘Over the years many people have claimed that drinking their own urine has health benefits, but to my knowledge there is no scientific evidence to support these claims.
“The kidneys are an efficient filtering system that gets rid of what the body doesn’t need, so putting this back into the body seems counterproductive.
“Personally, I believe there are better — and tastier — ways to keep the body healthy, including not smoking, eating healthy foods, and managing stress.”
Health expert Aisling Pigott, dietitian and spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association, added that urine contains toxins that are expelled from the body and kidneys, so drinking it can be harmful and cause infection.
“It certainly saves people the embarrassment of going to a professional colon lady.”
Now Brother Sage is preparing to teach his 12th course on urotherapy for students and couples – which he promises will teach people the basics of the practice.
Brother Sage said, “The course is a six-part 15-hour series.
“People learn all the basics, how to use the protocols, what the history of urine therapy is, what kind of testimonials people have spoken, the difficulties and challenges and how to explain it to people.
“People will get an overall, really solid foundation so they know how to better use these protocols for personal practice and how to mentor and teach other people.” Some of my students become teachers and therapists.
‘I have students in the UK. There are people who build a community.
“I’ve found that this community has made best friends for life and opened up a relationship that people would never have had.”
