Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered modder Gets Banned For Mod That Replaces LGBT Flags

Spider-Man Remastered

A mud for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered gained attention for its mod that replaces in-game LGBT flags with American Flags.

Not long after the “Non-Newtonian New York” mod was published, it started getting noticed and shortly after it was removed from Nexus Mods.

The creator of the Spider-Man Remastered mod has also been banned from Nexus Mods, with a mod portal representative confirming that the user and mod have been removed and banned for being “no longer welcome on Nexus”.

As with anything of this nature, once the mod was published and users had it, it has since been re-hosted countless times, just not on a huge modding community like Nexus Mods.

User reactions to the mod itself and its prompt removal ranged from “based” to some being upset that the mod existed in the first place – and of course some were upset that the mod was removed as well.

Either way, the whole debacle once again raises the debate over not just an owner’s right to a product he owns, let alone freedom of expression. Does such a mod that swaps one flag for another fall under protected speech?

Some would probably say that Nexus Mods is a private entity and thus can do whatever they want with the content and users on their website. The same logic can be applied to game publishers and developers – who can now legally revoke your access to a digital game that you legally own for various reasons.

Spider-Man Remastered just released for PC (via Steam and Epic Game Store) and PS5 – expect our in-depth review soon.
