The modern COVID-19 vaccine is now available in Hawaii for children ages 6 to 17.

Hawai’i Ministry of Health has adopted CDC recommendation that Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine can be used as an option for children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years.

The COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech is already available for children in this age group.

“Vaccine eligibility is now simple and easy to understand,” said Health Director Dr. Elizabeth Char, FACEP. “All 6 months and older are now eligible for these life-saving vaccines.”

Char encourages parents to get their children vaccinated.

“The vaccines are safe. They are effective. They work,” she said. “This is a chance to give your child the best protection against getting seriously ill from COVID.”
