! Murcia today – Social security contributions from foreigners in Murcia rise above the Spanish average
The hotel industry has lost the most foreign workers across Spain
The latest report released by the Ministry of Labor on Thursday 17 February shows a further 206 foreign subsidiaries for Social Security in January in Murcia, bringing the total number registered to 92,889 and representing an increase of 0.22% compared to last month.
In fact, it is a marked increase over the Spanish average, which actually fell by 1.31% last month.
In the Murcia region, the vast majority of these foreign workers are contract workers, but a significant 9,642 of them are self-employed.
With plenty of speculation about how the proposed labor reforms will affect workers, Spain as a whole lost an average of 29,650 foreign contributors in January, closing the first month of 2022 with a total of 2,240,156 non-Spanish workers.
Of the total number of foreign social security contributors, 782,195 come from EU countries (34.92%) and 1,457,961 from third countries (65.08%).
According to the ministry, Andalusia and Murcia were the only regions to experience an increase last month, while Extremadura (-6.2%) and Valencia (-3.1%) recorded the largest declines.
The sectors that lost the most foreign contributors in the first month of the year were the hotel industry (-4.8%) and artistic and entertainment activities (-3.4%), while information and communication (+ 1.08%) and agriculture, livestock and fisheries (+ 0.7%) received the largest boost
