As 2021 draws to a close, several states now have their own programs for the people who live there, with each local government deciding who qualifies for a fourth stimulus check and how much they will receive.

The bonus money comes when 36 million families receive their penultimate Child Tax Credit checks by November 15.

The last CTC check starts on December 15th.

Below are three states helping their residents this Christmas.

In California, the latest round of Golden State Stimulus II payments began this week, with some 800,000 checks mailed out on Monday.

Those who qualify for the stimulus check usually get it using the refund option selected on their tax return.

Eligible households will receive a stimulus check worth $600 and $1,100 each.

Direct deposits typically appear in bank accounts within a few business days, while paper checks can take up to three weeks to arrive.

To qualify for the Golden State Stimulus checks, Californians must meet the following criteria:

  • You must have filed your taxes for 2020 before October 15, 2021
  • Have California Adjusted Gross Income (CA AGI) of $1 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year
  • Have wages from $0 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year
  • Be a California resident for more than half of the 2020 tax year
  • Be a California resident on the date the payment is issued

The state says some $563 million in aid checks will be sent by December 17.

Payments are made using the last three digits of the zip code on your 2020 tax return.

The state has released the following terms for eligible recipients to expect their payments by mail based on the last three digits of their zip code:

  • 376-584 15/11/2021 to 12/03/2021
  • 585-719 11/29/2021 to 12/17/2021
  • 720-927 13/12/2021 to 31/12/2021
  • 928-999 27/12/2021 to 1/11/2022

The GSII checks are paid approximately every two weeks until every eligible Californian has received one.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced the Back to Work program for $1,000 in stimulus checks, beginning May 30, 2021, and will run through December 31, 2021.

The requirements are more involved in other states detailing when residents filed for unemployment and how long they were unemployed.

Residents must also have found a job to be eligible for the incentive benefit.

In November, Governor Janet Mills signed on to the Maine Disaster Relief Program, which allowed the mailing of a check worth $285 or more to more than 500,000 eligible employees.

Mills hopes the payments “will help families in Maine somewhat over the holiday season as we work to fully restore our economy.”

Maine’s emergency plan aims to help residents affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The budget provides $149.8 million for one-time incentive checks to Mainers who worked during the pandemic.

Payments will be rolled out from November through December 31.

To be eligible for Maine’s allowance, residents must:

  • Filed an individual Maine income tax return before October 31, 2021 as a full-year resident for the 2020 tax year. Information included on returns filed after October 31, 2021 will not be considered in determining your eligibility for the exemption.
  • Federally adjusted gross income for the 2020 tax year that is less than:
    • $150,000 if married files a joint return or an eligible widow or widower
    • $112,500 if filing as head of household
    • $75,000 if single or married files separately.
  • Wages, salaries, tips or other taxable employee wages received during the 2020 tax year.
  • Not claimed as charged to another taxpayer income tax return for the 2020 tax year.

Americans who are not residents of the above cities may still be eligible for a surprise incentive payment from their local government if they live in certain states.
